Pre-1920 Heddon Lures and Lure Box Collection

1903 - 1920

James Heddon & Son   -   James Heddon's Sons

Dowagiac, Michigan

A private collection of extremely rare Heddon fishing lures and historical Dowagiac minnows with the original boxes and paper brochures from 1903 until the 1930's.  Multiple articles on Heddon lure identification and a catalog of variations and factory colors are presented.  There are displays of the various collections of Dr. Michael Echols from 1995 to 2007, with values, which are documented on three different web sites and multiple issues of Luckey's Old Fishing Lures book, as well as in back issues of the NFLCC Gazette magazine since 1997.  Values from 2000 and 2007 are listed for a selection of early Heddon fishing lures to illustrate the historical value of James Heddon's art and craftsmanship.  The majority of the lures shown on this site were 'field' finds via the web site and as such were never on the show circuit or even in the hands of a dealer.  They represent 'factory' configurations with no substitutions or danger of repaints.

Dr. Michael Echols created the first antique fishing lure collectables web site on the internet in 1997.  In the process he assembled a large high-grade antique lure collection, some of which is shown on this or other web sites.  Dr. Echols no longer collects lures as he has moved on to working on his Civil War medical and surgical antiques collection.  This Heddon site is maintained and updated to share the knowledge with new collectors.
