Inscription on Dr.
Bentley's presentation Pond cased revolved reads: "From William Read and Son,
Boston, U.S.A." The significance of the presentation is unknown. Read and Son
were gun manufacturing firm from Boston during the Civil War, and this cased set
was apparently given to Dr. Bentley during his service as Assistant Surgeon for
the 1st Conn. Heavy Artillery Regiment. However, Dr. Bentley was soon to
receive his Brigade Surgeon's Commission and left his Conn. Regiment
