Pre-Civil War CDV of Surgeon Martin Rizer: pre-Civil War Brigade Surgeon, 1st. Division Pennsylvania Militia.

Civil War Surgeon: Philadelphia Fire Zouaves, 72nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry.  Enlisted 8/10/1861 as Asst. Surgeon, commissioned into Field & Staff, mustered out 8/24/1864 at Phila. Pa.

Lewinsville, Sept. 10-11, 1861; Ball's Bluff, Oct. 21, 1862; Antietam, Sept. 17, 1862; Fredericksburg, Dec. 12-15, 1862; Chancellorsville, May 3, 1863; Gettysburg, July 2-3, 1863

Medical Staff Sword of Dr. Martin Rizer was made by Hortsmann.

Civil War Medical Sword of Mexican War & Civil War Surgeon Dr. John Walker

During the Mexican War, Dr John T. Walker was in the 2nd Indiana Volunteer Infantry as an Assistant Surgeon.

During the Civil War, Dr. Walker served as a full surgeon (Major) in the 25th Indiania Volunteer Infantry, Aug. 19, 1861, made Major Oct. 20, 1862; Ft. Donaldson, Feb. 12-16, 1862; Shiloh Apl. 6-7, 1864; Resigned and discharged for disability June 10, 1864. 

Died from disease contracted when in the service Feb. 8, 1865.

The maker is most likely French.

 

Civil War Medical Sword of  Civil War Surgeon Dr. Benjamin Taft

Dr. Benjamin F. Taft,  Assistant Surgeon in the 20th Massachusetts Infantry, August 22, 1862-January 17, 1863 and Assistant Surgeon in the 19th Massachusetts Infantry from January 17, 1863 to March 14, 1863.

Died from disease contracted while in service, Sept. 27, 1864.

The maker is most likely French or Belgian.
