Ambulance Corps Sword of Lt. Roach

Lt . Roach
served on detached duty from the 33rd and 49th New York Vols. He was detached
to serve as commander of the 2nd Division of the Ambulance Corps of the 6th
Corps, Army of the Potomac. In this capacity, he served at Gettysburg.
This
appears to be one of the only known, extant Ambulance Corps presentation sword
of the Civil War period.

Lieut. Wm E. Roach, by the members of Ambulance Corps, 2nd Division,
6th Corps. Jam 31st, 1864."
