Civil War Presentation Ambulance Corps Sword of Lt. Roach

Lt . Roach served on detached duty from the 33rd and 49th New York Vols.  He was detached to serve as commander of the 2nd Division of the Ambulance Corps of the 6th Corps, Army of the Potomac.  In this capacity, he served at Gettysburg.  

This appears to be one of the only known, extant Ambulance Corps presentation sword of the Civil War period.

Rare Ambulance Corps Presentation sword to Lt. William E. Roach commanding the 2nd Division of the 6th Corps Ambulance Corps.

 

Collins & Co 1862 presentation Model 1850 sword with silver grip and gilded furniture

Model 1850 Staff and Field sword by Collins & Co, 1862.  "U.S." in the hilt knuckleguard which is gilded, silver hand grip with gold washed ornate wire wrapping.

Collins & Co. 1862 Staff and Field Sword with brass engraved:  "Presented to Lieut. Wm E. Roach, by the members of Ambulance Corps, 2nd Division, 6th Corps.  Jam 31st, 1864."
