From the Bowdoin Alumni: Henry Hastings Hunt, A.B.1862,  M.D. 1867; A. M. 1887.  Born 1842 in Gorham.  Served in the 1st Maine Artillery 1862.  Physician Gorham 1868-82;  Protland 1882-94.  Lecturer Physiology 1884-86;  Prof. 1886-91.  Died 1894.

Henry H. Hunt was a graduate of Bowdoin College, Class of 1862. After graduation, Hunt enlisted in the 5th Maine Battery and served during the Civil War, where he was appointed a Hospital Steward and took part in the Battle of Gettysburg. Following the war, he returned to Bowdoin and enrolled in the medical school, graduating in 1867.

Henry H. Hunt (1842-1894; Bowdoin 1862), a native of Gorham, Maine, served in the First Maine Battery of Light Artillery during the Civil War. He fought in many battles, including Second Bull Run and Gettysburg.

After the war Hunt received his M.D. at the Medical School of Maine (1867), and practiced medicine in Gorham (1868-1882) and Portland (1882-1894), Maine. He lectured at and held the chair in physiology in the Medical School of Maine from 1884 to 1891.

Hunt married Gertrude Jewett of Buffalo, N.Y., in 1887.

Scope and Content:
Thirty letters (August 25, 1862 - April 11, 1865), from Hunt to his mother and sister, and three diaries (1863, 1864, 1865). The material relates to Hunt's military career.
