On display: over 70 American-maker Civil War surgical sets; medical and surgical antiques; civilian and military surgical sets of the mid-1800's.  This site contains 904 pages covering surgical instruments, surgeon swords and images, Hospital Department bottles, medical lecture cards, and medical text-books.  Civil War medical topics are explained using 9,862 photos to help identify and differentiate Civil War era surgical and medical sets from earlier and later examples. 

The medical text-book collection is the center of an on-going research project on the education and educators of Civil War surgeons as well as the medical text-books they wrote and used regarding Civil War medicine.  Research is also being done on areas of Civil War medical equipment and various topics related to the Union Army medical and hospital department.
