Reference Edmonson

The name 'Goulding, New York'  is imprinted on the bone rasp as seen in the photo.   The set, with military sliding latches was most likely supplied to the U. S. A. Medical Department at the time of the Mexican War during the late 1840's.  The cylindrical style crown of the trephine is typical of pre-1860.

The boar's hair brush and all instruments appear to have seen extensive use.  The condition is almost exactly like that seen in the surgical set noted below.  A serious piece of our military history prior to the Civil War.

Compare this set to the other military Goulding surgical set used during the Mexican War.
