(from Edmonson; American Surgical Instruments: an Illustrated History);

This compact amputation set, (16 x 5 x 3 in. ) is in new condition, has a mahogany case, lined with red velvet, and a single keyed lock.  The instruments are all in new condition, with no rust or evidence of having been used at any time.  One indication this is a later set, is the presence of a plated tourniquet frame as well as the type of wood case, which has brass wire inlay in the case top.  The brass name plate was never engraved.
