Tiemann U. S. A. Hosp. Dept. Post-Mortem Set

This partial U. S. Army Hospital Department post-mortem set with early Civil War dark green velvet liner and the 'G. Tiemann & Co.' maker label in the bottom of the case shows the earlier 63 Chatham address, which was the Tiemann address immediately before and during the first three years of the War:

1855-63/64: 63 Chatham and 44 Eldridge.

The mahogany cased post-mortem set is (9 3/8 x 3 7/8  x 1 7/8 inches);  has a single military style sliding brass latch.

Missing are the bowel scissors (enterotome), plain chisel, and various scalpels.

As is typical for Civil War era Tiemann sets, there are multiple maker-marks for Tiemann.  The scissors are marked for "G. Tiemann & Co." as is written in the maker label.

The German silver blow-pipe was used to inflate ducts, arteries, veins, hollow organs (stomach, bladder, gall bladder, etc.) and aided in seeing where those parts of the body connected or attached.
