These surgical sets are presented to help differentiate pre- & post- Civil War
surgery sets from
those produced during the Civil War. All the surgical sets on this page are
'post-Civil War' and of course would not have been available during the Civil
War. It is important to differentiate the style and composition of these
sets from earlier sets to avoid mislabeling them as 'Civil War era'. They
are not Civil War era, they are post-Civil War. They may contain a maker's left-over instruments which were
created or purchased during or in some cases before the War. Instruments which evolved during the
War were carried over to the post-War era and that is why you see post-War sets
with military instruments like bullet forceps, male urinary sounds, etc.,
especially from the major instrument suppliers like Tiemann, Snowden, and
