Apple and Dried Cranberry Pie

bullet

3 1/4 lbs. Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, sliced

bullet

1/2 cup dried cranberries

bullet

1/4 cup all purpose flour

bullet

1/4 cup packed brown sugar

bullet

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

bullet

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

bullet

Pinch of ground cloves

bullet

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 1/2" pieces

Place bottom crust into 9" pie pan.

Combine apples, dried cranberries, flour, brown sugar, lemon juice, nutmeg and cloves in large bowl. Toss to blend.

Place apple mixture into pie pan. Top with butter. Cover with second crust. Cut slits in top crust.

Bake in preheated oven at 375 for 55 minutes.

NOTE: I sifted my flour, altho the recipe did not specify to do so. It called for dark brown sugar, but I always buy light brown sugar, so that is what I used. It also stated for the butter to be at room temperature, but mine wasn't! And I do not make my crusts, but I do use those in the red Pillsbury box in the dairy section of Publix. This was in the October 2000 Bon Appetit.
