Dressing for Turkey

bullet

1 box Jiffy corn bread mix

bullet

8 ounces Jimmy Dean or Weber sausage

bullet

1 1/2 sticks of butter

bullet

1 cup chopped onions

bullet

1 cup chopped celery

bullet

1 (8 ounce) can sliced mushrooms, drained

bullet

1 tablespoon poultry seasoning

bullet

3 cups seasoned Kellogg's croutons

bullet

1/4 cup liquid from giblets (perhaps a little more?)

Bake cornbread according to package directions. Cool.

In skillet cook sausage, drain, and transfer to large bowl.

In skillet, melt butter and saute onion, celery, and mushrooms until tender. Stir in poultry seasoning. Mix in with sausage. Break corn bread into pieces and toss it and croutons and liquid in with sausage and vegetables. Add 1/4 cup more liquid if baking dressing separately. Bake in separate pan 350 for one hour. (Makes enough for one 12 pound turkey.)

NOTE: I got this recipe from a good friend in Eustis years ago. I always cook my sausage the day before and refrigerate it. I also chop my celery and onions and put them in a covered bowl in the refrigerator. I bake the corn bread and put it in a zip-lok bag in the refrigerator, also. The following day when I am ready, I just put it all together and bake it. It is truly wonderful!!!!!
