Hoisin-Braised Pork, Mushrooms, and Green Beans

bullet

3/4 lb. well trimmed boneless pork, cut into 1" cubes

bullet

1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder

bullet

1 1/2 tablespoons flour

bullet

1 tablespoon olive oil (it called for vegetable oil)

bullet

1/2 lb fresh mushrooms, slices

bullet

1/2 cup canned chicken broth

bullet

3/4 cup chopped green onions

bullet

1 1/2 tablespoons hoisin sauce

bullet

1/2 tablespoon soy sauce

bullet

1 1/4 inch thick round of peeled fresh ginger

bullet

4 oz. Green beans, trimmed, cut into 1 1/2 " pieces

bullet

1 8 oz package fresh egg linguine, cut in half (I used spinach fettucini)

bullet

1 tablespoon oriental sesame oil

Combine pork and five spice powder in medium bowl; mix well. Sprinkle pork with pepper and lightly with salt. Add flour and toss to coat.

Heat olive oil over medium high heat; Add pork and sauté until brown, about four minutes. Add mushrooms, broth, green onions (reserve 2 tablespoons for garnish if so desire), hoisin, soy sauce, and ginger and bring to a boil, scraping up browned bits. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer until pork is tender, about thirty minutes, stirring occasionally. Add green beans and simmer for 10 minutes.

Cook linguine in boiling salted water until tender but still firm to bite. Drain well, Return to pot and mix with sesame oil.

Transfer pasta to serving dish. Top with pork mixture. Sprinkle with remaining green onions.
