Penne with Tomato, Basil, and Garlic Sauce

1 (28oz) can peeled tomatoes, coarsely chopped with juice

1/2 medium onion, chopped

bullet

3 garlic cloves, sliced very thin

bullet

salt and freshly ground pepper

bullet

1/4 cup olive oil

bullet

10 fresh basil leaves, stacked, rolled, and sliced thin

bullet

1/2 pound whole-grain (penne) pasta

Sauté onion (til golden brown) for about 10 minutes in extra virgin olive oil. Add the garlic and cook until just pale gold.

Turn down the heat and add the tomatoes with their juice. Simmer about 20 minutes. Add salt and pepper. Stir and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Turn off the heat and add the basil.

Cook pasta according to package instructions. Toss with the sauce and serve immediately.
