Jane Echols

Ft. Myers, Florida

Tuna Casserole (Hot Crossed Tuna)

bullet2 (6 ½ ounce) cans tuna, drained
bullet10 ounce package frozen peas, thawed
bullet1 cup celery slices
bullet½ cup bread crumbs
bullet4 ounces shredded cheddar cheese
bullet¼ cup chopped onion
bullet¼ teaspoon salt
bullet1 cup mayonnaise
bullet8 ounce can crescent rolls

Combine and mix all ingredients above except the crescent rolls. Spoon mixture into a 10 x 6 casserole.

Separate dough into two rectangles, pressing perforations to seal. Cut dough into four long and eight short strips. Lattice the strips across the casserole. Brush lightly with salad oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if desired. Bake 350 for 35-40 minutes.

NOTE: I used to fix this for my children and they loved it. I found it in a magazine back in the ‘80s advertising Kraft mayonnaise. Back then, I remember fixing it for a ladies luncheon and everyone really did like it. Not what you’d fix today, probably, but it is good and its easy to have all the ingredients on hand "just in case."
