Jane Echols

Ft. Myers, Florida

Chinese Spiced Pecans

bullet2 tablespoons butter
bullet¼ cup packed golden brown sugar
bullet2 tablespoons water
bullet½ teaspoon salt
bullet1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder (I found at Publix)
bullet¼ teaspoon ground cumin
bullet¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
bullet2 cups pecan halves

Preheat oven to 350. Butter a large baking sheet.

Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add brown sugar, water, salt, and spices; stir until sugar dissolves.

Add nuts to sugar mixture and cook until syrup thickly coats nuts, stirring frequently, about 5 minutes.

Transfer nuts to prepared baking sheet. Bake until golden, about 10 minutes. Cool.

NOTE: It said it could be prepared 3 days ahead and to store in an airtight container at room temperature.
