Cranberry-Apple Sauce

bullet

6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced

bullet

1 (12 ounce) package fresh cranberries

bullet

1 small lemon, sliced and seeded

bullet

1 cup granulated sugar

bullet

½ cup water

bullet

¾ cup sweetened dried cranberries

Stir together first five ingredients in a large saucepan; bring to a boil over medium-high heat; stirring often.

Reduce heat; simmer, stirring often, 15 minutes until cranberries pop and mixture starts to thicken.

Remove from heat and stir in sweetened dried cranberries. Cool. Cover and chill until cold and ready to serve.

NOTE: I found this in the November 2003 Southern Living and it is just so good! I made it in my four quart calphalon skillet and it was full. I started out with my 3 ½ quart sauce pan, but it just wasn’t big enough for the recipe. The note at the bottom said it could be stored in the refrigerator for two weeks. It will be wonderful on turkey sandwiches after Thanksgiving, or any time!!!!!!!
